Everyone concerned with the blues today is aware of the tremendous work done in the past two decades by the MUSIC MAKER RELIEF FOUNDATION, helping the true pioneers and forgotten heroes of Southern blues music gain recognition and meet their day to day needs.
This new volume in Dixiefrog’s MMRF Series, entitled Slavery, Prison, Women, God and… Whiskey, presents twelve artists from the Foundation. Most of these bluesmen are complete unknowns in Europe, including Rufus McKenzie whose "Slavery Time Blues" introduces this album with an incredibly moving denunciation of enslavement, reminding us that slavery days are not that far away in time.
Listening to this album is an experience in humor, faith and melancholy that will leave no one unscathed.
