Soul Return is a band built around JJ Holiday, guitar player of the Imperial Crowns, one of the legendary groups of Los Angeles. Besides the Crowns, JJ works regularly with Johnny Depp and his sister for Infinitum Nihil, their music film company. In the past he had played with luminaries such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Buddy Guy and France’s national treasure Little Bob. Lately he has been seen jamming with Keith Richards and Johnny Depp.

Kellie Rucker sings and blows harp. Born in Connecticut she travelled around before deciding that Los Angeles was home. She has been known for having worked a long time with the blueswoman Debbie Davies and the late California blues-rock band BB Chung King & The Buddaheads.

Michael Barsimanto, the drummer, also an Imperial Crowns alumni, has some achievements under his belt, having played with renowned jazzmen such as Freddie Hubbard and Jean-Luc Ponty, funk royalty Ivan Neville and various rockers notably Keith Richards, Andy Taylor (Duran Duran), Andy Summers (Police). He is also into film score having worked with John Cassevetes, George Lucas and Johnny Depp.

A few months ago, The Crowns being momentarily stranded, JJ seized the opportunity to do some demos with Kellie and Michael. They loved it so much that Kellie decided to write a few songs and pretty soon an album was into the making. Here it is, true to the best California has to offer, true to the blues tradition of the Angel City (LA, of course), true to Rock ‘n’ Roll with dashes of hypnotic grooves evoking The Grateful Dead, Howlin’ Wolf and Charley Patton and the free wandering spirits that were Janis Joplin, Memphis Minnie, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Jimmie Rodgers, King Solomon Hill or Curtis Mayfield…
