David Maxwell

David Maxwell is one of the most respected blues piano player of today, in the world of Musicians, journalists and blues oddicts.

Born in Boston, he used to spend his nights at the Club 47, listening Skip James, Son House, Fred McDowell, Big Mama Thorton and Muddy Waters. He becomes friend with Muddy and with his piano player, Otis Spann; so he can study as much as he wants, the incredible touch of this living legend. At this time Pinetop Perkins, Sunnyland Slim and the fabulous John Lee Hooker became also real good friends.

In 1972, he begins to play on stage with Freddie King.Then, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, James cotton and Otis Rush asks him to play with them. In the late eighties he comes back to Boston and builds his own band (David Maxwell and the Blues wizards). This group will be, during all these years, the regular backing band of Albert King, Lowell Fulson and Hubert Sumlin, any time they come to town. Everybody asked him to join the team, from Buddy Guy to John Lee Hooker or Johnny Adams.

From 90 to 92, he’s on the road with Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters, before touring with Jimmy Rogers, Otis Rush and John Primer. In 1995 he’s the official piano player for James Cotton and cuts with him the "Deep in the blues" album who wins a Grammy Award. During this period he plays on each and every CDs from Luther Johnson, Hubert Sumlin, Ronnie Earl, John Primer, to Bob Margolin.

A lot of musicians think he¹s the spiritual son of the late Otis Spann.
